In Cusco, local people follow with typical Latin fervor the fortunes of their soccer, basketball or volleyball teams; mainly the “Cienciano” the main “fútbol “(soccer) club in the city and probably the most important club in the country, since it is the unique Peruvian “fútbol” club that has got two international championships (the South American Cup in 2003 and the South American Re-Cup in 2004); besides “Cienciano” has three Peruvian titles and several participations in “Copa Libertadores” (the main championship in the continent).

Cienciano play its matches in the “Inca Garcilazo”  stadium, one of the most beautiful sport sceneries in the country, which is situated to 3300 meters over sea level. Playing in this stadium is a true challenge by the sportsmen. You can be present in the matches for the national league paying between S/. 10 ($3.3) and S/.  30 ($10).


A nice place to practice sport in Cusco, is the Zonal Park which is a sporting complex situated in the district of Wanchaq. In this place there are a great number of sporting fields, where it can practice “fútbol”, basketball, volleyball, fronton (a Peruvian kind of squash) and swimming. Inside the Zonal Park also is the coliseum “Casa de la Juventud”, which is the biggest coliseum of Peru (it can lodge 15 000 persons). Admission to the park cost S/.1 (around $0.3).


Another place to do swimming is the municipal pool of Wanchaq, a nice temperate pool . This place is opened to public from Tuesday to Sunday and admission costs S/.6($2).


The best field of tennis is in the “Club Internacional” , which is located at “Paseo de los Héroes” street in the Downtown. There, you can also practice bowling, pull and snooker.


The best place to do extreme sport is the “Action Extreme Park” in the district of Poroy. In this place there is a great infrastructure, designed to practice jumping, and several other radical activities.


The Sacred Valley of the Incas is one of the best places in the world to do rafting. In the Urubamba River, it can find places with white waters of level 1, 2, 3 and 4. Besides, both in Cusco and Sacred Valley it can do horse riding and gliding.


Cusco offers to visitors many paths of trekking like “The Inca Trail to Machu Picchu” (the most famous trekking route in South America), the trail to “Qoyllur Riti”, the trail to “Choquequirao” and many more.
